I have been around animals since the day I was born; they always have and always will be my passion and joy. I was born and raised in Brooklyn where I grew up with dogs, cats, birds and fish which instilled a deep love for all creatures. When I was 11 we moved to South Jersey, where I met Tyler. We attended Middle School and High School together. Though we only dated for a short time then, we remained friends into adulthood even though he had joined the Air Force and I went to college. I obtained my bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a concentration in Environmental Science and a minor in Literature from Stockton University. I thought I was going to be a journalist that righted all the wrongs of the world. Realizing soon after completing this degree that my efforts would be futile, I continued my work in customer service; I had already worked in various places since I was 15 such as hotels, a photography studio, a real estate office, and Wawa, where I worked through high school. I gained valuable skills and tools to ensure guest satisfaction, especially when something didn’t go well. I found myself in manager roles often, but knew my passion wasn’t in that industry despite loving building relationships with people. So, once I moved to Philadelphia after graduating, I began fostering dogs, cats and kittens. It was at this time that Tyler and I grew apart, having married other people and lived very far apart (he ended up in Japan and then Italy). I decided to go back to school and perhaps save the world in a different way; I attended Penn State in hopes of doing conservation work. I completed two years of the biology program where I did field research on the Eastern Meadowlark, and then got the wild hair to move across the country. So, I spent 11 years in Washington state exploring the West, hiking, road tripping, camping, kayaking, traveling the world, and making incredible memories and friends. It was there that I continued fostering which lead to jobs as an adoption counselor, a foster coordinator, an adoptions and volunteer manager and eventually starting my own pet care business, Pawsperous Pet Care. During that time I lived on a micro farm in Skagit Valley where I had chickens, pot bellied pigs, and gardens. Pawsperous Pet Care was fully fledged and successful when Tyler and I reconnected. And of course, he lived on the opposite side of the country. Despite swearing that the West is the Best and never wanting to move back to the heat and humidity of the East, I found myself living in South Carolina a year ago. That was after we traveled back and forth for half a year to see one another—one of those trips was to Asheville and it was on that trip that I fell in love with this city and the breathtaking surroundings. So, once Tyler officially retired, we moved our home on wheels here! Before doing so, I was hired as a pet sitter for Auntie M Pet Care, who I continue to work for as well until Pisgah Pet Care takes root in the area. All that to say, we are literally living our dream life! Tyler and I love to hike and kayak together with our dogs, Bear and Octavia. We are insatiable foodies and feel like we have found Mecca! And when we aren’t pursuing our passions (he also details cars and used to own his own business which we hope to revive in the future), we can be found cuddling with our three cats, Yoshi, Alistair and Astrid. In my not-so-abundant downtime, I also love to bake, garden, read romantasy books, stroll the arboretum, shop and support local makers, and road trip to new places!
Since childhood I have grown up loving animals! Everything from cats, dogs and fish to the occasional lizard.
As a retired Air Force veteran (22yrs) I have lived many places to includes the Carolina’s, Japan, South Korea, & Italy! We’ve loved it here ever since the first time we visited and we are now happy to call Asheville home. As Elizabeth mentioned we have 5 animals! 2 doggos and 3 cool cats. When we are not relaxing at home with the fur children or pet sitting together I also work as an auto detailer, enjoy kayaking and most any other outdoor adventure, traveling and eating ALL the foods in between.
